Our church began in 1989 as a mission church. Our first worship service was held in the basement of a home on New Year's Day. We quickly outgrew their gracious hospitality, so we moved into a room in a local business until we were blessed by the Lord and raised enough money to purchase land and construct a building.
MILESTONES AT UNITY:
December 13, 1988, in a home prayer meeting, 14 families were led to begin a new church in Paulding County. Rev. Voyles accepted the call to pastor the church; church officers, directors and teachers were elected; an offering was taken; the temporary name, Southern Baptist Mission, was chosen; and a committee was established to look for church property.
1989: Sunday Evening - New Year's Day, the first worship service was held. In March, the church moved into donated space in a business office. In April, four acres of land was purchased and by November the personal loan was paid in full and a Note Burning Ceremony held.
1990: February, a Ground Breaking Ceremony was held for the building that became our Church Building. In March construction began and on June 24th, with 104 members, the first services - Homecoming - were held in the new building.
1991: In January - and on the second anniversary the Constitution and By Laws were presented and later adopted. In March, the mission became a fully constituted church with more than 120 members.
The name, "Unity", was inspired by one of Rev. Voyles' sermons from Ephesians, Chapter Four, expressing what the membership desired - Unity and is scripturally based on Ephesians 4:13 and Psalm 113:1.
1993: June 27, (third annual Homecoming) a Church Dedication Service was held to dedicate all property, buildings, and furnishings.
2005: Ground Breaking Ceremony in April 2005.
June 25, 2006, the 16th annual Homecoming Sunday our 2nd Dedication Service was held for the new Worship Center.
